From Estimate to Order
These are planning estimates, not structural design or a final order quantity.
Thicker flagstone covers less ground per ton, and that makes thickness the main input. A ton of stone one and a half inches thick covers close to 100 square feet. A ton of two inch stone covers about 80 square feet, and a ton of stone two and a half inches thick covers about 60.
Measure the length and the width of each rectangle in feet and multiply them. Add the rectangles together for an odd shape. For a stepping stone path, measure only the area the stones cover and leave out the gaps.
Flagstone splits into irregular pieces, and your installer trims some of them to fit. Many buyers add a small allowance for cuts and waste. The quarry confirms the final coverage for its own stone.
